Volunteer Training

Training at SLAM is a quarter long process filled with socializing and learning how to teach music in a classroom with your fellow teachers. Once you’ve been recruited as a teacher, we will guide you through the basics of teaching music while simultaneously building community in your classroom.

Our training events are held weekly based upon everyone’s availability. In our trainings you will learn fun ice breaker games, how to handle unruly students, introduce music to new beginners, and get to know your co-teacher. In addition to teaching music together, members of SLAM love to jam out together on weekends. Part of our weekly training sessions will include socials so that each site specific group of teachers get to know each other. We will also pair every new teacher with a returning volunteer so that you have someone to help you through any challenges you may have throughout the quarter.

Online Zoom Training:

If you missed our Zoom training this quarter, no worries! Down below is the recording of this session; this session highlights the changes to our typical music lessons this quarter, as they will now be conducted online. For any questions or concerns, please contact one of our SLAM! Staff Members!
